Mothers really are 'Eating for Two'

Although always suspected, researchers have recently definitively discovered a link between maternal eating habits and the health of the offspring.

Due to the close correspondence between human and mice genetics, it is possible to anticipate the effect of maternal eating habits by observing the result in mice. The expression ‘eating for two’ has suddenly taken on new meaning, as the results found from the research in mice show detrimental health effects from poor maternal diet. The researchers definitively concluded that the mice offspring from a mother that was fed a low nutritional diet were at higher risk from diabetes and obesity, diseases that currently have devastating effects within the human population. Obviously, it is the long term goal of the researchers to further develop this discovery in hope to prevent such diseases.
